Golf in San Antonio

Headed south to San Antonio to try some of the great courses there.  I wanted to play courses in the Hill Country and with nice elevation changes, although I was a little worried about the effect of the prolonged drought on the courses.

On the 25th I played one of the best municipal courses in the state, Cedar Creek.  Just the drive out to the course is pretty impressive with some large hills.  I arrived early and had a snack then was sent out -- by myself :)  The starter was a great guy who told me to go ahead early and also about the course.  I played two balls like I usually do when playing alone so that I can better pace myself and also to get in more golf.  It was a pretty hot day, about 102-104 and somewhat humid, so not that many folks on the course, but the course was BEAUTIFUL!  Rolling hills and green fairways and trees.   Plays fairly for all golfers and well placed tee boxes.
On the first tee I had a small audience as two maintenance workers were in the bunker on the left.  Thank goodness I managed to stay out of it.

I did run into a group of 6 on the back nine who had slowed up play.  There were some older folks who could barely walk.  They allowed a male twosome ahead of me to play through but then seemed unwilling to do the same for me.  Finally, just went around them as they were SUPER slow.  As I finished my round -- quite sweaty by the way -- a storm blew in and apparently rained hard for about 10 minutes while I was in the locker room.  Pretty funny when I walked out of the locker room now in a halter dress!  Saw no ladies on  the course and so the guys all did a double take as I carried by bag to my car.  I was headed on for the nite to Corpus Christi for a birthday celebration but would return to San Antonio for more golf the next afternoon.  And I definitely want to play more SA municipal courses!

Here are some great pics of Cedar Creek:
